{"id":156618,"date":"2015-12-10T03:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-12-10T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fyysika.ee\/?guid=fdaf5e4bfdf8baf3d320ec0e967d4a03"},"modified":"2015-12-10T03:00:00","modified_gmt":"2015-12-10T00:00:00","slug":"non-physics-peer-demonstrators-in-undergraduate-laboratories-a-study-of-students-perceptions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fyysika.ee\/?p=156618","title":{"rendered":"Non-physics peer demonstrators in undergraduate laboratories: a study of students\u2019 perceptions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Laboratory demonstrators play a crucial role in facilitating students\u2019 learning in physics subjects.<br \/>\nInspired by the success of peer-led activities, we introduced peer demonstrators to support student<br \/>\nlearning in first-year physics subjects that enrol students not intending to major in physics.<br \/>\nSurveys were administered to 1700 students over 4 years in four subjects to examine student<br \/>\nperceptions of how demonstrators assisted them in the laboratory. Scores awarded to peer<br \/>\ndemonstrators by students were no lower than those awarded to demonstrators traditionally employed<br \/>\nin the first year physics laboratory. These latter demonstrators were drawn mainly from the ranks of<br \/>\nphysics research students.
