Omap\u00e4rasele avastusele ei osata veel evolutsioonilist p\u00f5hjendust anda. Lisaks s\u00f5rmedele tekib krimpus nahk ka jalataldadel, mis v\u00f5iks viidata, et f\u00fcsioloogiline rekatsioon parandas kunagi m\u00e4rgades oludes inimahvlaste man\u00f6\u00f6verdamisv\u00f5imet. Krimpsumine on n\u00e4rvis\u00fcsteemi reaktsioon. Arstid on seda varem kasutanud t\u00f5vede ja patoloogiate diagnoosiks, sest halvatud s\u00f5rmen\u00e4rvidega inimesel krimpsumisefekti ei teki.
