This allows<br \/>\nus to study the spatial\u2013temporal propagation of ultrafast pulses as well as the influence of<br \/>\nhigh-order spectral phases such as\u00a0group delay dispersion and\u00a0third-order dispersion on pulse<br \/>\ncompression in time. The NLS can describe several nonlinear effects, in particular in this paper we<br \/>\nconsider the Kerr effect, cross-polarized wave generation and\u00a0cubic\u2013quintic propagation in order to<br \/>\nhighlight the potential of this equation combined with the GUIDE environment. Graphical user<br \/>\ninterfaces are commonly used in science and engineering teaching due to their educational value, and<br \/>\nhave proven to be an effective way to engage and motivate students.
