Kokku kahek\u00fcmne galaktika \u00fcmbert on leitud ioniseeritud gaasi filamendid, mis tasapisi valgust kiirgavad ja paistavad meile roheliste helendavate piirkondadena. Allpool on toodud kaheksa nendest galaktikatest. H\u00e4mmastav tundub sealjuures just seletus, mis n\u00e4htusele pakutakse.<\/p>\n<p>K\u00f5igepealt olid gaasi pilved, t\u00e4iesti n\u00e4htamatud. Siis kiirgas galaktika keskmes olev kvasar\u00a0v\u00e4ga intensiivse ja arvatavasti l\u00fchiajalise elektromagnetlainete impulsi. Gaasipilved neelasid kiiratud impulsi ja toimus fotoionisatsioon &#8211; footonid l\u00f5id elektronid aatomitest v\u00e4lja. Valgus, mida me t\u00e4na n\u00e4eme, eraldub\u00a0aatomite tuumade ja elektronide rekombineerumisel. Kusjuures roheline valgus eraldub hapniku aatomitest. Lisaks hapnikule on gaasi pilvedes veel heeliumi, l\u00e4mmastikku, v\u00e4\u00e4vlit ja neooni.<\/p>\n<p>Mis on siin h\u00e4mmastavat? P\u00f5hiliselt rekombineerumise aeg, selleks kulub tuhandeid aastaid. Aga ka see, et niisugused maised protsessid ka kosmiliste m\u00f5\u00f5tmetega objektide korral j\u00e4lgitavad on.
